Music Venues in Winchester

Music Venues in Winchester

There is nothing more satisfying as a teacher than seeing you pupil go on to be a gigging musician. Fortunately, there are many opportunities for you to do so thanks to the quality of the music venues dotted around Winchester. If you’re interested in playing a gig of your own, I’d recommend taking a look at the list of venues we’ve compiled for your benefit.

University of Winchester is the top venue in Winchester for touring bands, which are enticed by the 850-person room capacity and state-of-the-art PA system. Whilst usually pre-occupied with hosting crazy student nights, the Union regularly takes a break and hosts gigs instead. The University has come to be associated with garage indie rock due to its presenting of an honorary degree to Carl Barat of The Libertines fame. If you’re interested in rocking like the Libs as well, the Vault is located on university grounds so check out SO22 4NR if you’re interested.

The Railway is one of the quirkiest music venues you’re likely to come across. Pub by day, venue by night, The Railway has been holding live music since 1850 but more recently has established a reputation for itself as one of the UK’s best regional music venues, holding gigs in its attic! Recently Dr Feelgood and Martin Carthy have graced its stage, and by the looks of it, even more hotly anticipated acts will be making the bill. We’d recommend you get a closer look!
